A more robust, inclusive model of value creation will sharpen dominant normative theories Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) such as stakeholder theory and the communicative/deliberative democracy. When measuring creation, CSR oscillate between traditional, exchange-based approaches utilizing narrow financial metrics value-oriented embedded in prominent theories. The two are often conflict. problem is aggravated by CSR’s assumption that all firms, regardless industry, possess same generic responsibilities. mining company, a sports betting service, medical device manufacturer on fours when success. paper identifies contradiction settled convictions corporate decision making prescribe. Using pharmaceutical industry an example, it references widespread conviction during 2019 Covid-19 pandemic some companies had responsibility to reach beyond goal optimization. It then explains why this cannot be rationalized using CSR, namely, hinges defective creation. One implication analysis healthcare should readjust governance order make health focal alongside profit. At time, semiconductor firm might satisfy its responsibilities only designating profit goal. thrust show reconceiving can advance not democracy theories, but CSR.
